Supergirl returns tonight after a long hiatus, and the CW has released a scene from the episode that is called ‘Schott Through the Heart’, focuses on Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan), and introduces his estranged mother, Mary McGowan (Laurie Metcalf).
The clip shows the funeral for Winn’s father, Winslow Schott Sr. (Henry Czerny), aka the Toyman, who died in prison. Winn and his friends from the DEO are the only ones in attendance, but he is approached by a woman at the end who we learn is his mother and who abandoned him years ago. Before too much can be said though, Kara (Melissa Benoist) hears the sound of a Jack-in-the-Box coming from the coffin, deduces that it means the coffin is going to explodes, flies off and changes then comes back and protects the two further people away from the bomb while telling everyone else to take cover… That description may sound snarky, but it is what happens.
Here is the synopsis for tonight’s episode:
OSCAR-NOMINATED ACTRESS LAURIE METCALF GUEST STARS – When Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) father dies, his estranged mother, Mary (guest star Laurie Metcalf), reappears trying to reconnect and to explain why she abandoned him all those years ago. Winn is too embittered from his rough childhood to forgive her but when a copycat Toyman attacks, the two must work together to stop him. Mon-El (Chris Wood) tells Kara (Melissa Benoist) something important about the Worldkillers, and Alex (Chyler Leigh) becomes suspicious of Myr’nn’s (guest star Carl Lumbly) recent behavior. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Caitlin Parrish & Derek Simon (#314). Original airdate 4/16/2018.
Supergirl airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
